India beating Australia in Twenty20 semis created much higher expectations of this upcoming future cup one day match series against Australia that will be played in India starting from September 29.
Can India beat world cup champions ?

Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led India will go into the seven-match ODI home series against Australia with a gilt-edged opportunity to rise as high as second in the ICC rankings, while the visitors are in serious danger of surrendering their pole position.

Currently placed sixth, India will have to sustain the momentum generated by their triumph in the just-concluded Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa to move up the rankings ladder.

If India, on 108 points, manage to sweep the series, they would gain 10 points and in the process leapfrog New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Pakistan to second behind South Africa, with Australia dropping from 129 to 116.

Ricky Ponting's men, who regained the number one ranking from South Africa during the ICC World Cup in the West Indies, could drop as low as third in that case, according to an ICC statement here on Friday.

A 6-1 or 5-2 series victory for Dhoni in his first series as India's ODI captain would mean Australia losing top position to South Africa while India would move to third place.

A 4-3 win would lift India to fifth while Australia would be left on the same mark as South Africa, on 124 points, but would retain top spot when the ratings are calculated to three decimal places.

However, the other side of the story is that if Australia sweeps the series, India will fall as low as seventh in the Championship table, while a 6-1 or 5-2 series win for the visitors would result in India maintaining sixth place with Australia extending its advantage over South Africa.

Individually, no Indian batsman is in the top 10 list of batsmen but if Sachin Tendulkar carries his form from the England series - where he scored 374 runs - he has every chance of breaking back into that elite group.

Tendulkar currently lies in joint 12th position in the LG ICC Player Rankings for ODI batsmen and is one of four Indians in the top 20 - others being ex-captain Rahul Dravid (15th), Yuvraj Singh (18th) and Dhoni (19th).

Meanwhile, Ponting will be hoping he can recover quickly from a hamstring injury to achieve his career-best rating in the Rankings.

His team-mate Mike Hussey is certain to slide in the batting list following his withdrawal from the tour because of a hamstring injury. Nevertheless with Matthew Hayden (4th), Adam Gilchrist (6th) and Andrew Symonds (8th) still on tour and also occupying top 10 places, Australia is not short of batting talent.

Meanwhile, Ajit Agarkar, Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan are India's best bowlers, currently occupying 25th, 26th and 27th places respectively and all three have the chance to break into the top 20 with successful series against Australia.

What you think who will have upper hand ??
Which player can change the scene ??
What you think can be the factors which can play major role in clinching series.
