People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (India) has launched a new website called www.petaDishoom.com. The programme, developed by its team of twenty somethings, gives young people a fun foundation to help "dishoom" animal abuse by letting them know what their favourite stars are doing to help animals and offering them prizes (iPods, mobiles, T-shirts, wallets, caps, wristbands and more) for showing compassion to animals.
It also provides resources to youth who wish to go vegan, stop wearing leather and stop buying cosmetics tested on animals, stated a PETA release.
The website in its launch version includes contests in which visitors can sign up for a chance to win a poster autographed by vegetarian Pamela Anderson, a CD by the band Swami featuring DJ Swami advocating vegetarianism to their friends and a poster of actor John Abraham, who wants birds to live free of imprisonment in cages, added the release.
Most young people naturally respect animals; petaDishoom rewards youth for their compassion for animals and gives them a chance to meet like-minded celebrities. We hope our new programme will give young people what they need to give to those who abuse animals some "dishoom" , says petaDishoom's Youth Projects Specialist, Puja Joshi.
The website will feature new actions for people who sign up for petaDishoom's " Street Team" and get rewards.
The "Campus" section of the site includes tips on what people can do on their campuses to help animals as well as provide information on bands such as Jal, Pentagram, Indian Ocean, Parkrima and others which have supported PETA at college festivals throughout the country.
The site also has a Page 3 version called "Page 3

He (John Abraham) is NON VEGETARIAN.
John Abraham
'Vegetarianism is my diet choice because it keeps me fit and it's the easiest thing I can do to help animals. For people who love animals and who like to look and feel their best, vegetarianism is always in style.'
'After seeing new chicken farms outside of Mumbai, it got me thinking. I love animals, so why would I eat them? Now, I'm vegetarian and feel better than ever. I've especially valued the muscle-building and fitness advantages of a veg diet.'
