Top ten designers at WIFW

New Delhi, Oct. 31 -- At the just concluded Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010 we saw some awe-inspiring work, some below par and some simply disastrous work. Tabulating the Top 10 performers wasn't an easy job yet we did our best to have a judicious list (which obviously is not the final word). Here they are in no particular order. 1. Rahul Mishra: This NID graduate made his debut at WIFW and what a debut it was that won every heart. His origami-inspired organic Khadi collection was simply divine. Mishra's forte is his strong knowledge of patterns and that's why his reversible numbers are absolutely brilliant. 2. Ashish N Soni: Ashish has been in the top-league for years now. His minimal-chic look in tune with the times impressed us. Innovative elements like playing with the lapel of a jacket to create necklines, imaginative motifs and unique fabric development like the basket weave he used this time were modern. 3. Rajesh Pratap Singh: His style reflects his nature - modesty at its best. Out-of-the-box elements like using twisted knots and inner construction details as surface ornamentation and creating soft sculptured look with wing-like lapels and structured drapes got him the thumbs-up from the critics. 4. Sanchita Ajjampur: Her look is totally international and one can see the Italian influence in her construction and finish. The accentuated shoulders and the petal detailing on sleeves and neck were simply mesmerising. 5. Varun Bahl: Slim pants with ruffled waistband, accordion pleats highlighting the neck and the shoulder and crossover drapes on the back showed some deft garment engineering by Varun. 6. Gaurav Gupta: He started with a bang, then simmered down a little, but now he has bounced back. The winged shirts with folds and extended sleeves, waist trousers and printed shirt dresses showed the creative ingenuity of Gaurav Gupta. 7. Prashant Verma: He is the new enfant terrible of Indian fashion - loads of attitude that reflects in his creations. This time Prashant did some great prints of machines, motor parts and towering architecture on dresses, jackets and trousers. 8. Namrata Joshipura: If anyone can do sequined dresses immaculately, it is her. She showed a collection that fashion gurus call 'matted bling' by juxtaposing sequin bathed dresses with an industrial feel.

10. Rahul Reddy: Reddy showed some quirky creativity where he used an inverted jacket to create a skirt and inverted shirts for a short dress, complete with collars dangling at the helm.
